Role in the project
Ghent University serves as the coordinator of NitroScope, ensuring scientific leadership, operational coherence, and smooth collaboration across the 25-partner consortium. As coordinator of WP1, UGent manages reporting, communication with the European Commission, and the integration of work across all technical and engagement activities.
Beyond overall coordination, UGent plays a central scientific role in WP3, leading the data collection and nitrogen-management activities across the 125 monitoring sites. The university guides the agronomic assessments, evaluates improved N-management and conservation strategies, and leads the production of the full nitrogen balance, N losses, and Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) analysis for the pilot sites. UGent contributes to sensor validation, modelling integration and stakeholder engagement activities, ensuring that research insights translate into practical solutions for land managers.
