About

TUC is a small, young, dynamic University with a clear mission: to expand knowledge and benefit society through research integrated with education. In this endeavour, the pursuit of excellence is the driving force. More than 70 laboratories with prime equipment, high technology infrastructure and eminently qualified personnel, as well as 120 faculty and staff members with international academic background attest to the level of excellence in education and research conducted at the University. This profile ranks the Technical University of Crete amongst the most prominent research institutions in Greece.

Role in the project

The Technical University of Crete (TUC) contributes to NitroScope through its expertise in soil science, nitrogen cycling and environmental monitoring in Mediterranean agricultural systems. Within WP3, TUC supports data collection at regional and intensive monitoring sites, providing harmonised datasets on soil nitrogen dynamics, nitrate leaching and greenhouse gas emissions under Mediterranean South conditions.

In addition, TUC supports the analysis of nitrogen fluxes and nitrogen use efficiency, contributing field-based evidence for model calibration and cross-regional comparison. TUC also facilitates local stakeholder engagement, working with farmers and land managers to support field activities and ensure that project data reflect real Mediterranean farming practices.
