Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops
About
Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) is a German research institute specializing in plant sciences through innovative horticultural and agricultural production systems and crop improvements. IGZ is the leader of WP5 modelling N-fluxes at field scale and upscaling measurements to the national scale.
Role in the project
IGZ plays a central role in NitroScope by leading WP5 (Optimisation and implementation of nitrogen models). The institute is responsible for developing and calibrating an integrated modelling framework that combines process-based and machine-learning approaches to simulate nitrogen fluxes, nitrogen use efficiency and mitigation strategies across diverse cropping systems.
In addition, IGZ supports the integration of field data, sensor measurements and remote sensing outputs into the modelling architecture and contributes to the development of farm-management add-ons for site-specific nitrogen decision support. Through its expertise in crop modelling and data-driven optimisation, IGZ strengthens NitroScope’s capacity to translate complex nitrogen dynamics into practical tools for sustainable nitrogen management.
