Cà Colonna

About

Cà Colonna is a family-run agricultural enterprise with a strong social vocation, committed to sustainable farming and an integrated food value chain. Now in its fifth generation, the farm combines practical agricultural expertise with academic and professional knowledge in agronomy, farm management and agricultural economics.

Cà Colonna is actively engaged in European and international sustainability initiatives and holds multiple certifications, including organic farming, quality and labour standards of the Emilia-Romagna region. The farm has also pioneered Italy’s first social farming disciplinary, reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility, social inclusion and innovation in agriculture.

Role in the project

Cà Colonna contributes to NitroScope by hosting and supporting field activities in Mediterranean North agricultural systems, with a strong focus on organic farming practices. Within WP3, Cà Colonna supports data collection at regional and pilot sites, providing field-level evidence on soil nitrogen dynamics, crop performance and nutrient management under organic production conditions.

Cà Colonna also plays a key role in the Italian pilot site, supporting the implementation and evaluation of improved nitrogen management strategies based on precision application of organic compost. Through close collaboration with researchers and advisors, Cà Colonna facilitates local stakeholder engagement, ensuring that NitroScope’s solutions are tested under real farming conditions and remain relevant for organic and horticultural systems in southern Europe.
