EU Soil Observatory
The EU Soil Observatory (EUSO) is the European Commission’s principal platform for providing reference data, knowledge, and tools on soil-related topics. It plays a key role in supporting EU soil policy, including the European Green Deal and the Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe.” EUSO aims to move beyond simply monitoring soils to understanding them—by building an EU-wide soil monitoring system, promoting research and innovation, and engaging citizens through open platforms and awareness activities.
Through initiatives like the LUCAS Soil Survey, the Soil Health Dashboard, and the European Soil Data Centre (ESDAC), EUSO delivers critical insights into the health of Europe’s soils. It also supports policy and science through active working groups, citizen engagement events, and a growing body of scientific research. By connecting scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders, EUSO helps drive evidence-based solutions for soil protection and sustainable land management.
