University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland

About

FHNW is one of Switzerland’s leading universities of applied sciences and arts, actively involved in teaching, research, continuing education and service provision – both innovative and practice-oriented. Its broad range of degree programmes, hands-on concept, innovative, application-oriented research and global network make FHNW a diversified and appealing educational institution, a sought-after partner to industry and an attractive employer in northwestern Switzerland.

Role in the project

The FHNW team of Grégoire Meylan plays a key role in nitrogen budget analysis and uncertainty assessment in NitroScope. As leader of WP6, FHNW is responsible for estimating national and EU-level nitrogen budgets, while integrating field-scale data and model outputs to quantify nitrogen stocks, flows and losses across Europe. Nitrogen budgeting at the country and European scales serves the purpose of providing robust evidence to support policy-relevant nitrogen management and improved reporting at European scale.

The FHNW team of Gerd Simons oversees the data management and the data acquisition strategy for the entire project. In addition, FHNW develops an online nitrate measurement system which enables sub daily measurements of nitrate leaching in soils.
