About

NMBU’s mission is to contribute to the well-being of the planet. Our interdisciplinary research and study programmes generate innovations in food, health, environmental protection, climate and sustainable use of natural resources.

Role in the project

NMBU contributes to NitroScope through its expertise in soil biogeochemistry, greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen cycling in boreal agroecosystems. Within WP3, NMBU hosts and operates one of the project’s pilot sites and contributes to data collection at regional and intensive monitoring sites, with a particular focus on high-frequency measurements of N₂O emissions and soil nitrogen dynamics.

In addition, NMBU supports the analysis of nitrogen losses under cold-climate conditions, including off-season and freeze–thaw processes, providing critical data for model calibration and improving the representation of boreal systems in nitrogen budgets and mitigation assessments.
