Walloon Agricultural Research Centre

About

Walloon Agricultural Research Centre (CRA-W) is a multidisciplinary public research institution that covers the following areas: bioengineering, plant breeding, food and feed quality, authentication and traceability. The Soil, water and integrated production Unit seeks to understand the impact of farming practices on natural environments, paying particular attention to soil and water resources, developing relevant analysis and monitoring indicators or tools, and proposing innovative incentives and cropping systems designed to guarantee sustainable farming systems. CRA-W’s role in this project is to apply its expertise in data and meta-data collection and analysis on agricultural practices from long term trials, in the development of innovative agricultural practices and their evaluation in field trials.

Role in the project

CRA-W contributes to NitroScope by providing strong expertise in nitrogen management practices and agronomic data analysis. Within WP2, CRA-W leads the collection and analysis of existing European field-scale data on nitrogen management and conservation practices, supporting the development of a harmonised database across pedo-climatic zones.

In addition, CRA-W participates in farm and pilot site activities, contributing to data collection, strategy assessment and the evaluation of improved nitrogen management solutions. Its applied research perspective helps ensure that NitroScope’s monitoring and modelling outputs remain grounded in practical, field-level agronomy.
